Among the largest schools in New Zealand, Mt Albert Grammar School stands out as the second-largest, with a student population of 3,035. At the tertiary level, Auckland is a significant hub for higher education. Five of New Zealand's eight universities have campuses in the city, including the University of Auckland and Auckland University of Technology. Although the overall number of foreign students in New Zealand has declined since peaking in 2003, Auckland remains a popular destination. As of 2007, approximately 50 schools and institutions certified by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) offer English language programs, further enriching the city’s educational offerings.
